low power, but huge sound, tons of features
After getting some great surround sound speakers, only to find out we needed a receiver to go with it, I researched online and finally settled on this model. The back of the unit looks like the cockpit of a 747. There is no HDMI port, but there's about everything else imaginable. We've got this connected to our Samsung HDTV, DVD/VCR player and DVR for DishTV. All are working in perfect harmony.
We got the speakers for the TV - hear sci-fi and action films in theater-quality sound - and we needed a receiver to pull this off. This Sherwood Newcastle AV receiver does not disappoint, either. It auto-detects the type of sound coming through - whether it's a movie or a commercial - explosions rock the subwoofer so we can feel it in our feet and the sound is around us when appropriate. We hadn't really planned on listening to the radio through it - but AM/FM sounds AWESOME on this receiver and through the surround sound speakers.

DOESN'T GET BETTER
SHERWOOD HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME..ITS SEEMS THAT NEWCASTLE IS THERE HIGHER END STUFF...ONLY ONE STORE HAD IT..WHEN LISTING IT PUT SOME OF THE BIG BOYS (500-600) UNDER THE CARPET.. EASY TO USE GREAT POWER AND A SOUND THAT WILL WOW YOU..IF YOU LOOK AROUND YOU CAN FIND THIS BRAND NEW FOR UNDER 200.00..NO BRAINER
Good sound low power
1st off everything works as it should, inputs decoding remote room set up no quirks that I have happened into. The biggest thing is the lack of power I have it in a smallish room 150 ft2 or so and it will play as loud as you would like it but there is no extra power, no way this has a hundred watts per channel. That being said the sound is quite good and for the price I don't think you can beat it.
