missing just one thing
Much simpler to use than its big daddy, the VoiceLive2--but it's missing one crucial thing: the dedicated jack for the expression pedal to turn the harmonies on and off in live situations. If you use it sparingly, it's an instrument unto itself, and with the latching footswitch, you end up playing Riverdance on it. Also: in a band situation, it's very very sensitive to outside noise into your vocal mic. You need a completely polarizing hypercardioid, and you'll need to point the other amps away from it. In a crowded cavern-type gig? Forget it. It'll squeal on you.

Perfect for acoustic gigs where you don't run signal interference. Just a beautiful invention. Next time, TC Helicon, give us that expression pedal jack, and you'll have the best performance pedal in the business.

good for straight pop music - not so good for jazzy tunes
I am a brazilian living in NYC for the past 18 years. I've worked with meshell ndegeocello for nearly 10 of those years, as well as with a lot of other people. I'm a sound engineer, and singer/songwriter. Here's my take on this device:
I own the three versions of the harmonizers tc-helicon has: the voicelive, the voicelive2 and the harmony-g xt. The harmony-g xt was my expectation to carry a smaller unit that would do the same the other two did. It works fine, but the part that does not work is the chord detection FOR THE TYPE OF MUSIC I SING/PLAY. When I play "american pie", for instance (which I don't do - just for testing the unit) it works flawlessly. Anything jazzier, with more complicated chords, and the unit keeps trying to match it, going up and down annoyingly until you give up and turn the auto detect off. Everything else is awesome - you WILL need to tweak the sound so it's not as processed (mostly the effects) but that's how it its with everything. The weekend...
Outstanding Vocal Harmonizer!
When I looked at the available harmony processors about 5 years ago, I was far less than impressed with the level of accuracy (i.e., scale autodetection) and the quality of the generated harmonies (they clearly sounded nonhuman). At that time, I didn't believe that the price for those units were justified. It recently came to my attention that the technology has dramatically improved. After looking into the harmonizers again, I decided to make a purchase, but the decision came down to the TC-Helicon VoiceLive2 and the TC-Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G XT. I was a little wary of shelling out $800 on a harmonizer unit that I had not had the chance to demo; for this reason, I went with the Harmony-G XT.

The unit is small, about the size of a wide guitar effects pedal, and it should easily adapt to pedalboard setup. The Harmony-G XT allows you to select no, one or two harmony voices. It's scale detection relies upon two data sources, the incoming vocal as well as the...
