Huge sounding full-range speakers impress for the $$
I picked up a pair of these at a local hi-fi shop during a big sale for a bit under a grand. They were the floor demo pair, but on inspection, looked perfect. The review reflects that these speakers had adequate burn in since they had been used for demo purposes before my purchase.
In short, great deal for the money. Monster bass that's adjustable (important!) due to the 300 watt powered sub in the side of each speaker. DefTech also uses dual passive radiators, helping the powered woofer to distribute more pressure in the room. Properly dialed in, the bass response is deep and full across the spectrum (no one note bass here!), and sacrifices in the area of bass control and immediacy. A bit sluggish, but tonally accurate and warm. I prefer depth of response in my casual listening over accuracy of timing. Big sound, small space
The sound space created by this design, coupled with the full range of these speakers is outstanding. They passed the "Mannheim Steamroller Fresh Aire 4" test with ease. I am very pleased.
better than expected
I bought these for my second sound system to see if I could improve on the marginally acceptable sound coming from my top of the line Polk Audio sound bar and small subwoofer. I listen to music and am connected to a 55 inch Samsung LED. OMG, these are far superior in clarity (voice), mid range and powerfull base. These are as good or better than my 15 year old and much more expensive ARs. Best buy I've made in a long while.
