Fabulous Sound
I was surprised at how big and heavy these speakers were when the arrived to my home. But I soon forgot all of that when I hooked them up and listened to the great sound!!!

I originally purchased these speakers to replace a pair of old Mitsubishi speakers from the mid 80's my parents had abandoned and I had found a use for. I didn't really understand why these speakers where pricey but I decided to get them because there are no more REAL floor standing speakers in the market anymore!! I'm glad I made the decision to purchase these. They deliver way better bass compared to the old Mitsu's I had. And the tweeters produce a very rich, but not over the top sound. The woofer and the tweeters are perfectly synchronized to deliver a good balance of low and high sounds.

All in all, if you're out looking around for a real pair of floor speakers, end your search now and purchase these, you won't regret it.

Awesome.
I bought these speakers in 1995, which makes them (and me) really old to date. I've had audiofile friends tell me how nice, and how expensive their speakers they have are. I've seen a lot of fancy looking speakers, and all the top brands. Nothing is a better workhorse, has clearer sound, and deeper bass, than these. I have hammered these babies for years, and they still sound great. I've hauled em' from Ohio, to Oregon, and now to North Carolina. People scoff when they see them now. Beat up cabinets and the covers are not too pretty. But when I light em' up with my Onkyo, they sing, and people can't believe the sound. 15" subs just effing pound. Thats all there is to it. The tweets, and mids sound great, at high and low volume. Superb sensitivity, makes every watt count. Some people say they sound to bass heavy. To those people, I say kiss my ass. Best speakers I've ever heard
After owning these speakers for a couple months, I went to the local metal club to see my favorite band play. It sounded like crap compared to these Cerwin Vegas. I always thought it sounded awesome there, but now I know just how good music can sound. I paired two of these with the Cerwin Vega 800 watt pro amplifier. I can never turn the volume past 20% because pictures will start falling off walls. But it's not just the volume of these, it's the CLARITY at high volume. At ear-bleeding levels, every high note and drum beat is crystal clear, precise, clean. I also used these for my wedding and everyone commented on how nice they sound. These are great for all types of music, but they really shine with rock and metal. It's nice to get some double bass with no distortion!

Superb JBL Bookcase Speakers
The speakers may be a bit large for a bookcase speaker. But for its size it has rich true bass response and clear midrange and treble. The imaging is excellent with a good amp or receiver. I was very impressed with the sound quality for the price. It is an excellent bargain in my opinion.

Incredible!!!
I can't believe people use these as surround speakers. I use them as bookshelfs for my stereo and they blast crisp, clear sound and very high volumes for their size. One thing to note is that they sound a bit bright right out of the box but that dissapeared after a few weeks of use.
Fantastic speakers for my main entertainment system - bought 2 pairs
This review is for the cherry color version of this speaker, but they are identical to these ES30BK's, except for the color.

I just received 2 pairs of JBL ES30CH speakers and the ES25CCH center channel speaker. (The black ones are ES30BK and ES25CBK.) I bought these to replace a set of JBL LX300's that I have had for 20 years. (The old ones will still be in use on another system.) JBL's quality and value for the dollar is well known, so I will try to give you information to help you decide if these speakers are for you.

They are large for bookshelf speakers and they are wider in front than in back. They measure 15 1/4" high, 13 1/4" from front to back, and 9" wide in the front, tapering to 6" wide in the back (they are wedge-shaped). The wedge-shape may seem strange at first, but they look really nice in my living room, and look great positioned straight on or at an angle. Excellent Budget Bookshelf Speakers
I have trusted JBL since 1994 with my first set I purchased at the bankrupt Circuit City. I decided to replace my bookshelf speakers which I thought were just fine. What I was missing throughout the years! Excellent high frequency response and they adjust perfectly with my Onkyo Amplifier 7.1 setup. If you have an amp that utilizes the Audessey calibration method, it accurately analyzes and perfectly adjusts these excellent speakers for great surround sound. I thought the small 4" woofers may cause a problem with bass reproduction, but trust me, these guys held their own working in conjunction with my subwoofer. They are a bit heavy for the wall so you need to make sure that they are mounted safely. At 10 inches between each mounting post you will have a tough time hitting a stud. Use good anchors! The gold mounting posts for the speaker wire are top quality as usual. The bad thing about the pictures here at Amazon is they don't show the speaker grill. They mount onto the speaker...

geat speakers
Been a fan of JBL for a long time. These speakers sound great and are pretty easy on the eyes. They have a nice mid and high range, but carry a surprisingly decent low end. All around great product for the money.
Great sound at a great price
I found these book shelf speakers on a special Holiday sale and could not be happier. I was a little worried about not having a separate bass when buying them, but the sound couldn't be better. I totally recommend.

Amazing sound, fantastic clarity, huge speakers!
There are no reviews for these speakers yet, so I wanted to write one that will hopefully be useful to other people interested in purchasing the JBL L830's. I purchased these speakers as an upgrade to an existing Onkyo HTIB system I have owned for over a year. While my existing system was already very good, I noticed that during most movies the dialogue was difficult to hear and other sounds were somewhat muddied. I knew when purchasing the HTIB that the speakers included with the set were sub-par, and I had intended to upgrade at some point.

I researched many different brands and speaker types before deciding on the JBL Studio L series. I looked at JBL's cheaper line, the Venue series, but I decided that I wanted to go with the higher end Studio series for a few dollars more. I purchased these L830's for my front L/R and paired them with the LC1 center channel speaker.

Well being the first review on the cherry model I will try to provide enough info. to make it informative while not being too full of "tech you knees".

First impression - they are heavy! The box containing both speakers weighed over fifty pounds. Bet ya I am on the UPS guys deliver last list now. The speakers weigh 22 pounds apiece which usually bodes well.

Appearance - nice. No vinyl and the wood veneer is finished well. One thing you do not notice in the picture is the sides are actually panels added to the main box very much like the Polk LSCI series which is not only eye catching but increases stability.

Quick look inside. Completely insulated, wiring done with thick wire, and internal braces large. JBL did a first class job in not cuttting any corners.

Now for the main event! How do they sound. Bi-wired them to a Pioneer Elite 84, did the set up and sat back. At first a little bright but not to worry you need to break in new...
Crystal clear, strong mids and deep bass
I put these on speaker stands in my master bedroom. Hooked up to my Harmon Kardon AV receiver it is crystal clear, has clean mid-range and the bass is more than adequate. I envisioned needing a subwoofer, but after hearing movies and music I see no need for it. If you are going for wall shaking bass add a sub to the mix. I have a system like that in the entertainment room.

They are beutiful in the cherry finish. I am sure the ashe is as well.

My wife does not like exposed speakers generally, but these are so nice looking she said they make our room more beautiful.

It has a rear baffle so you can't put them right against the wall. Placement 6 - 10 inches away form the wall makes them sing.

Awesome for the price.
This is my first center channel speaker. I am not an audio-file, but it sound's great in my budget 5.1 system. The price could not be beat. It only took three days to get to me as well.
Plays nice...
Full disclosure... I am not an "audiophile" and my main requirements for my surround sound system is that I can watch television and movies without much hassle and where I can actually hear what is going on in the dialog and effects.

I looked for a low-cost alternative to the packaged cigarrette-box-sized center channel speaker that came with my system. I wanted something that matched my Boston Acoustics left and right chanel speakers and that gave me audible dialog and sound effects for television and movie watching. I got all those things.

I can now hear the dialog without turning up the sound to levels that hurt the ears. The speaker box, in all its black plainness is just what I was looking for appearance wise. It fits my system and plays nicely.

My one criticism is the connector for the speaker wires. It is horrible! I understand that on lower cost audio components that one is not going to get "gold plated" high level...

Big sound in a small, wall mountable package
These speakers are not tiny satellite modules which are meant to disappear in the room. Well, I think that's great; because not only do they sound amazing, but they look amazing too! I use these speakers as a B set in my living room away from my main home theater setup. I have two small children and I like to continue listening to audio while they are napping... so I have absolutely no need for the overwhelming boom and thump of a sub. Despite this, the bass these speakers deliver as a result of the dual ports is superior considering the size, and the high notes are clear and crisp, never sounding like they are coming from the inside of a tin can. I have diverse taste in music and have found that everything from old school hip-hop to classical piano and NPR sound perfectly excellent. They mounted easily to the wall and I am completely pleased. What amazing sound from such a tiny speaker setup!
I bought these speakers to be the satellite surround speakers to go along with the JBL L890 front speakers. After a few user errors and getting to know my receiver a bit better these two speakers alone can speak for themselves. Deep accurate bass and crystal clear mids and highs for anything can put to them. Theater sound effects and every music imaginable (besides country) sound amazing. I get punchy bass at extremely low power output. At 130 watts at .05 THD these babies lack the bass bump but I expected that with a small woofer. However the low notes were present and deep. The clarity was clean Clear and concise. These didn't even break a sweat and made my ears ringing after only a few min of listening pleasure. I paid around 250 for them and these look SHARP. Awesome!!!
I am an experienced home theater buff and am currently running these speakers with a 3.2kW 7.1 custom installed system in my home. I could not be happier with the performance of these speakers. People often over-estimate the need to spend big money on the rear speakers since all they do is produce the "surround" sound. I considered the B&W ceiling speakers to match my front speakers, but at over $750 for those I determined it wasn't worth it. I'm of the opinion that it's not necessary to overspend and was looking for a 3-way option that has an adjustable directional tweeter. These fit the bill so I gave them a shot... wow! Great buy and they sound awesome! I would recommend these to anyone in a surround application, but I would definitely NOT use them for front speakers as they are just too small and won't produce enough sound on the lower end because of their smaller size.

Yamaha NS-IW280CWH 6.5" speakers, Rock + Easy Install
The Yamaha NS-IW280CWH 6.5" speakers are priced just right for the homeowner looking to expand or start a new built-in system. They fit nicely between my 2x8 ceiling joist depth and the floor above. Yamaha also threw in good advice for the novice, especially mentioning about surrounding the speakers area with insulation (not touching the speaker though) to get the most sound definition out of the speakers. The speakers install easily with simple instructions and they are well designed. I talking both physically and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The sound quality and clarity hit the famous Yamaha high note right on the money. Highly recommend these babies to all!!
Very easy to install and sounds great!
Okay, let me preface this with a little personal fact. I am a 40ish female with some DIY skills.
This was an easy install and it took me more time deciding where i wanted to place them ithan nstalling them. Now when I mean installing them I talking about cutting the hole and placement. Feeding the wires through my ceiling joists took alittle more time because I had to go into the attic crawl space.
The quality of the speakers are superb and I'm very happy with the sound which is fantastic. I can't believe how great they look and sound and I would get the same kind when I do my upstairs.

Excellent surround speakers
I use these as rear channels in a 7.1 setup. They perform very well with the rest of my speakers which are JBL Studio L Series. They have excellent high-frequency responce and fantastic stereo imaging. The low-end is lacking, but I wouldn't expect much of 5.25in. woofers. These would be okay for a small bookshelf system, and they make excellent surround speakers.

JBL ES20BK Delivers in a small package
I needed a couple of reasonably small but powerful speakers to pair with my frankestein Home entertainment system. The new set up incliudes a new panasonic 42" S2 plasma and panasonic Blu Ray paired with 25 year old analog NAD 7220PE Reciever, and B&O turntable). My old Bose 301s which still sound great didn't fit on the new TV console.

Long and short is that these speakers put out plenty of sound through the NAD. They are ok on the base but not as deep as the Bose. As far as the high and mids go they are accurate and crisp. They sound good whether I am watching an HD movie or listening to vinyl.

I settled on JBL because I had a pair of Northbridge bookshelf speakers that I'm quite pleased with in another room and the Amazon deal for $205 couldn't be beat.
Best bang for your buck.
You will NOT find a bookshelf speaker more crisp, with solid pounding bass than these speakers in this price range. Solid bass snaps out at you, not muffled. Highs are clean. They look great also. I cannot imagine better sound out of something this size and price.
JBL has always impressed and continues to do so.
No subwoofer required unless you want to rattle the windows.
